Models of health service delivery in rural Australia

The development of appropriate service delivery models for rural and remote areas needs to be underpinned by a strong population health approach. This means that providers of all health services are attempting to provide services in ways that are appropriate to the social and cultural rural context. Primary health care philosophy and public health oriented research and practice form the backbone of rural health service delivery in Australia. These translate into the following models of health service delivery:

Primary Health Care
General Practice
Community Pharmacy
Community Health
Rural Hospitals
Multipurpose Centre (MPC) & Multipurpose Service (MPS)
