Rural Placements and University of Tasmania Policies

Universities, like other large institutions, are complex. Policies and procedures have been developed to ensure clear channels of communication between students, teaching and administrative staff. There are many policies and procedures at the University of Tasmania that can be accessed via the UTAS website. The policies that are most relevant to rural placements are listed below.

What is a University Policy?

A University policy meets the following criteria:

  • It is a governing principle that mandates or constrains actions.
  • It has institution-wide application.
  • It helps ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, enhances the University's mission, promotes operational efficiencies, or reduces institutional risk.
  • It will change infrequently and sets a course for the foreseeable future.

University policies affect students, officers, faculty and staff and do not substantially affect the procedural or substantive rights or duties of the general public.
