University Centre for Rural Health, Tasmania

The Australian Government funds a network of University Departments of Rural Health (CRH) that are located throughout regional Australia. CRHs work across a variety of health disciplines.

The CRH, Tasmania was established in late 1997 to address rural health professional issues on a statewide basis. It aims to contribute to a comprehensive, coordinated approach to rural health education, training and research. Its multidisciplinary perspective is raising the profile of Tasmanian rural health through strategic partnerships, education and research activities.

The CRH, Tasmania has a strong partnership and collaborative working arrangement with the Tasmanian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). A partnership agreement between the University and the Department to designed to improve health services through a coordinated and integrated approach to education, research and clinical service delivery.

Key Result Areas

The CRH is required to meet six key result areas (KRAs).

Increase and improve rural experiences for health science students.

Key Result Area 2
Expand educational opportunities that are relevant for rural and remote practice.

Key Result Area 3
Undertake research in rural and remote health issues.

Key Result Area 4
Support for rural health professionals, consumers and communities.

Key Result Area 5
Contribute to innovation in education, research and service development through collaborations with universities, health services and professional and community organisations.

Key Result Area 6
Embrace a strong population or public health focus and contribute to the development of innovative service delivery models in rural and remote health.
